Throughout this series of hands I will assume you want to improve your basic bidding skills. This group of hands is an introduction to the game of bridge, and intended to identify the basic bids/tools necessary to learn before you proceed to level 1. You are the dealer and the dealer always starts the bidding with a bid or a pass. Before you decide whether your hand qualifies to be opened or to be passed, you must count your high card points. Ace=4 HCP King=3 HCP Queen=2 HCP Jack=1 HCP In order to start the bidding you usually need at least 12 HCP in your hand. The whole point of bidding is to conduct a useful conversation with your partner. It is nearly impossible to try to bid with 100% accuracy, but by adopting a simple set of guidelines as to the meaning of the bids you make, it is possible to paint an accurate picture of your hand. In this series of hands I will mention most of the rules needed to communicate with your partner. Think of them as Bridge Language. Question: How many HCP does this hand have?
